Assessment and development centers are one of the most useful tools for accurately pinpointing the gaps between an individual's abilities and those required of a particular job. They provide accurate data on individual level and a skills audit of the participating population at an organizational level.

Assessment centers are designed to let  observers rate the participants during a variety of work-similar exercises. When interviews normally produces excellent background data, assessment centers delivers involuntary data on behaviors and competences needed in a specific positions. Since individuals  normally work in teams, the exercises are composed to study the participants in a social context.

Assessment center is a method used for pure selection or a development method with the aim to let the outcome guide the participants in training and career goals. In both assessments and development centers a detailed individual feedback is given.

The exercises used are based on key competences which differentiate between successful and less successful performance. The most effective development centers are simply designed, based on the specific company profile and include operational managers in the assessor team.
